So I have recently bought another truck. 1986 F150 4x4 302efi. As I’ve started dodging into it first I noticed it had a serpentine belt setup and the accessories from a later year model. Then I noticed the firing order was that of a HO/351 motor(1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8). So apparently the motor has been swapped at some point. How do I identify what I have so I know what to order parts for? And Is there any benefits of having a later model engine? As always thanks in advance.
That firing order suggests it's a '94+ truck motor, it has a bigger cam than earlier motors but everything else is exactly the same an any other '87+ truck motor. Casting numbers on the block and heads will confirm this, head casting numbers are not visible without removing the intake but there is usually a capital letter cast into the outer corner near the valve cover, a letter T here signifies E7TE castings. A '94+ block will have an F4TE casting number.
On the side of the block down by the starter, and yes it would have a roller cam.
thanks for the info. I will look for that. So will a 94+ truck engine with a roller cam work with the speed density system. Because it doesn’t appear to be swapped over to a MAF style system. But the truck runs amazing.
