2022 F350 6.7l
This is my first diesel, so forgive me for my lack of knowledge. Is it normal on these engines when you press the gas, to get a slight delay before you fill the engine actually kick i? It seemingly has a half a econd to a second delay if you smash the gas to say pass someone on the highway.
assuming this is normal in comparison to my 2014 6.2l gasser. Thanks all
Yeah, typical in normal mode. Much better in deep sand and snow mode. There is a device called a pedal commander that will solve most of the delay. Turbo spool time does play a factor though.
I've learned not to simply smash the pedal to the floor. You will get a better response by applying even steady pressure. Never had any problems passing doing it this way. If you are still wanting faster response, double tap the traction control button above the center screen. This will enable "sport mode"

I find that my new truck downshifts and accelerates much smoother, and MUCH faster than my old one. I don't even feel the 10 speed downshift, especially compared to the 2017's 6 speed, and when the turbo kicks in it really kicks in.

no doubt that it accelerates smoother and faster than my 2014 6.2l 6-speed. The only “issue” is the lag. I’m just used to a gasser responding instantly when I push the pedal a little harder than normal.
is there any concern as far as voiding warranty from using this?
Nope. If you are using a Pedal Commander it plugs inline with the wiring that goes to your accelerator pedal. Trip to dealer? Unplug and remove. No "electronic footprint" left behind. The Pedal Commander has multiple adjustments and settings to allow you to tailor it's behavior exactly as you would like. I installed mine because of the nasty delay between flooring the pedal and the truck actually taking off. It does not make any vehicle faster - it makes the throttle open more quickly by re-mapping the pedal response.
I do not have personal experience with the Pedal Monster. Plenty of folks here use it and say it works great.
My 2019 definitely has a small pause on take-off. I figured this was due to turbo lag + 8,000 lb vehicle. My son's Audi A4 2.0T has a bit of lag, too. Turbo.
Where I really feel the lag is in the "double-tap." Whether by design or by accident, Ford programmed these things (well, at least mine) such that I cannot begin to accelerate, pause, and then resume accelerating. If I engage in an accelerate-pause-accelerate (double-tap), then all I get is a dead pedal. I have to beg the the truck to come alive and really prove to the truck that I do, in fact, want to resume my acceleration.
I think the take-off is helped with Pedal Monster/Pedal Commander and the dead pedal (double-tap) issue is completely solved. Otherwise, once we went away from mechanical devices to computer-controlled acceleration, we're at the whim of the software team to allow us to do what they deem is safe and appropriate.
My local diesel shop told me about this with my new truck. Installed it and it was like having a tuned truck. No footprint and approved for all 50 states. Yes even Comifornia. https://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/...-07-20-cummins

There's multiple products like this that all do the same thing. I have the banks device on my current truck.
I DISAGREE it improved the initial lag from first touching the skinny pedal, to the truck starting to move/react.
It does make the truck feel more responsive, but that is only because it is telling the ECU to give more throttle than you are commanding with your foot.
I still am an advocate of throttle response enhancers, but they do not solve the initial delay in almost all drive by wire modern vehicles.
The only way to solve that is with a full ECU tune.
I notice lag is the worst when I do a false start (starting to pull out but then someone comes by quickly and have to come to a stop for them). It seems like it takes awhile for it to kick in to get moving that second time. I have used the Pedal Commander in the past (it failed during use and the accelerator pedal just stopped working) and I use the Banks Pedal Monster now. It helps make the throttle more responsive while you're moving, but it doesn't do much for that initial start from zero.
I'd recommend the Pedal Monster over the other one mainly because if it fails, there is a failsafe that will not leave your pedal completely dead, which can be unnerving to experience while in traffic.
