4R100?
Was this transmission only offered in the 7700 or was it available on 5 lug trucks as well?
I currently have a Ford Excursion, but the V10 is a thirsty beast and I RARELY use the 3rd row seats. Looking at "downgrading" to an F-150 super crew of the same vintage (2003ish) but I do occasionally tow a 7500 lb rated trailer. I'd like to have a truck that's up to the task. A 5.4 and 4R100 should do the trick for me and net me a couple MPG extra while I save up for a 2023 F-150 PowerBoost.
At that tow weight, I’d suggest grabbing a super duty with a 5.4. A 7700 would do the trick, but they’re hard to find. I’d lean super duty just to have well over 3 tons of truck to work with and the extra payload capacity as well. F-150s barely tipped the scales over 5,000 lbs and I want physics in my favor when possible. A heavier tow vehicle helps that.
The Excursion is a Super duty. Just with a 3rd row of seating instead of a bed. 5.4L Excursions are pretty gutless though. (I drove mine from the Outer Banks North Carolina to Washington DC on 9 cylinders once after it ejected a spark plug.)
I guess I'll just keep the Excursion until I save up the cash for the new F150.
The 7700 package wasn't available in super crew, nor Lariat trims as I can find; I've got kids in car seats. Need the 4 door and I want the leather
