I'm looking for directions on my winter project. I bought a 2008 f250 lariat 4x4 with the 6.4 from a bank for a whopping $1,500 earlier this year. It runs but the motor needs some attention. My initial plans were to rebuild the motor and add it to my collection. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago, I came across a clean 2000 excursion 4x4 V10 limited that runs great, no problems at all. I've always wanted an excursion so I jumped and got it for $2,250. It has 291,000 miles on it.
I've been thinking about swapping everything from the truck to the excursion, (dash, front seats, suspension) then swapping the V10 for a dt360 from an International truck and using one of the transmissions, either the 4r100 or 5r110. I could sell the 6.4 motor to cover some costs and use the body parts from the 08 on my other trucks. If you had to choose which route would you take? Thanks
With those two trucks and for the money you have into them I would swap the pickups front clip onto the EX along with the coil front suspension (assuming both are 4X4) also assuming both are fairly rust free. I would either keep the high mile V-10 and run it till it dies or go with a new one, but I understand the lust for diesel that many have.

Yes both are 4x4 and are rust free, I'm a farmer/diesel mechanic and have plenty of diesels to drive. I've never owned a V10 before now only Ford gas engines I own have been 5.4s. If I go the diesel route it will either be a 5.9 Cummins or the Dt360. I'm wanting to put Ranch hand bumpers on the front and back and a lift on the ex.
My Cummins conversion is taking forever but that being said, the V10 still purrs like a psychotic kitten. It's going to be really hard to justify pulling it out, but the gas prices are nuts now, so there's that.
My two cents would be NOT to swap the 6.4 into anything. Too much money and effort and frankly too expensive to fix. Enjoy the Ex as it is, pay attention to the spark plugs torque specs and other maintenance.
