Like many my driver seat is torn and needs attention. I am hesitant to purchase new covers as the factory seats lack in side bolstering, and while "comfortable" are sub par off road.
I have seen some swap to newer Super Duty Seats, and if I go aftermarket the Corbeau Trailcat looks appealing (Scheelman look to be the pinnacle but way too much $$$).
I am more curious if anyone has retrofitted seats from another vehicle make with success. I know back in the day swapping in buckets from BMWs, etc was popular as they can be found used in much better shape and for a few hundred bucks.
Fabrication for install is not an issue, however the easier the swap the better.
I love the Excursion/ F truck seats and would not swap them for anything.
That said, my whole off toad racing career i have run seats from PRP. I,ve probably had 20 different seats from them over the decades.
they built these Ostrich/Ballistic with heating elements for my last racer.
I have PRP seats in the trail Jeep and have used them quite a few times, for the Ex thinking something more factory...just with better bolstering. If I could add bolstering to the current seats that would work too, however I imagine if even possible that would cost as much as new seats.
Its likely Ill end up with a seat cover or replace the seat bottom cover and foam but a swap seems like something worth looking into. I'm guessing my idea has not been done by many folks.
I ordered some PRP seats for mine but they are still being built. I have run them front and rear in my Samurai for years and still just as comfortable as when I put them in. The Samurai has the Premier highbacks but for the Ex I went with the Enduro Elites.

My plan is try to use the factory bases
I'm stuck on swapping in seats from another vehicle to keep cost low, or just put on some seat covers. Seat Shop has quality replacement covers and foam, but $340 for just the driver seat bottom is crazy to me.
Ford expedition seats ae the same as far as I can tell. They should bolt right in. I've been looking for navigator seats for ours, but will settle for some expedition in good shape, but I havent found any in the junk yards yet.
With mine, I have the Eddie Bauer with heated seats, so its been a search finding the same in the salvage yard
I like the seats in my daughters 19 Expedition much better than those in the EX or my F250 after an hour or so I look crippled when I get out for the first few steps, but can drive for hours in hers and no pain.

That was my original plan as well but then I started shopping used seats up here in Canada and the prices people wanted were insane
