Tailgate?

So the handle broke on my tailgate.
Got a new one , changed it out , took plate off tailgate.
Everything hooked up easily and all seems to work right but ....... tailgate still wont open?
I had this happen once years ago but cant remember what it was? Any ideas?

Won't open at all? Take the cover off and see what's going on, and it never hurts to hit the latches with some wd or pb.

May need to adjust the latche catchess on the sides. Latches might not release properly if under too much tension.

Thanks guys , that seems to be the problem ...................there is none?
Everythings moving smoothly and looks like its working.
Took plate off pulled on rods by hand , still doesnt open?

When you pull the rods do they pull the latches in? The latches are only thing holding the tailgate closed normally.

Have you tried pushing the tailgate in while you pull the handle to relieve the pressure?

I had to replace the plastic threaded rod holders in my 2017 tailgate. If yours isn't opening when you remove the cover plate and pull the latch arms, there's something else afoot. That's very odd.
