I will add that if it is like in my wife's 2020 Expedition, it is pretty much useless. If you have a larger phone than getting it in and out of it is a pain. The Qi charger is the older slower type that will not charge a newer phone at the fast charge rate. If you hit a big bump it may knock it off the charger so it is not charging.
I have an iPhone XR and have had these issue's (except the fast charge not available on the XR). I use the a cable to charge my phone and use Apple CarPlay.
I am getting a new iPhone 13 along with the Magsafe charger to see if it will work better in my truck. It sticks on the back of the phone and alingns itself to the charge ring.

same experience here w iphone 12.
I have read in places that its inherent to the iphone (12?) design, im curious how your 13 will do. I have not used my charging pad since trying it once.
Have to agree with all the above. My platinum has the wireless charger and my phone, although older XS Max, is a larger phone and it’s a pain to get in and out. It charges super slow as well.
the design, in my opinion, would had been fantastic if it had the wireless charger in the open storage area to the left of the cup holders and was a fast charger.

The iPhone 12 and 13 are pretty much the same design. Without wireless CarPlay in our trucks wireless charging seems kind of stupid to me. I just plug in my phone when I hop in for a long drive and use CarPlay. On all the short trips I just drop it in the center tray or leave it in my pocket. I charge mine up every night, so it pretty much last all day.
I might try the MagSafe charger in the tray to see if it holds the phone and charges it without issues.
I am outa town again for a few weeks so it will be a few weeks before I can check it.
I’m still playing around with the built in charger, the issue I’m having is as the truck bumps down the road it lifts slightly and stops charging. I might just disable it all together via Forscan.
I just got these last night. I cut a hole in the rubber liner, and used some VHB tape to stick the charger to the plastic tray. 13 Pro Max in a Pelican MagSafe case fits well.

The wireless charger needs a 20W feed. Plenty of cheap options. If you have an existing 12v -> USB C charger it more than likely will do the job. Charger comes with a USB C -> USB A adapter so you can use older chargers you might have as well.
Best, most reliable way to charge your phone is to just use the usb cable.
I personally have a high output fast charger cube plugged into the 110 outlet to charge my phone.

The 13 fixed the issues that plagued the 12 with regards to Qi charging. My 12 was never able to charge using Qi and my 13 charges just fine. Since I have the Max, the OEM wireless charging location is completely worthless. I went with the console mount from ProClip found here: https://www.proclipusa.com/product/8...-console-mount. They have a few other options but blocking a vent is just not an option in Texas. On top of that base, I use their MagSafe holder: https://www.proclipusa.com/product/i...agsafe-charger.

my wifes samsung a20 with the otterbox on...will not charge unless placed JUST right, until the next bump in the road then it stops...its a PITA. plugging in is best
so the spot now is a catchall for "stuff"
I use the USB-C charging cable. Lets me have Apple Carplay and charges much faster than the wireless.
The Wireless charger built into these trucks is first generation stuff and pretty slow compared to what the phones are capable of.
