Controlling Speed on Steep Grades
I have 2011 F-250 6.2 XLT FX4 with a 30 foot bumper pull.
I pretty much let the truck brake on its own, NO cruise....but will lock out the higher gears to maintain the engine braking abilities if I need to.
If I have to step on the brakes for any length of time, I feel like I didn't set up right, it happens, and I back off the gain a little bit of the trailer as I don't trust them as much to handle that kind of heat that might happen...I'm not sure its a issue, but knowing how they build trailers to the minimum spec...I just do it out of precaution. No reason to freak out...you rarely see ditch vehicles like the days of old, equipment is so much better nowadays...
