Oil dipstick adapter

Oil dipstick adapter

This may be a silly question... But what holds the dipstick tube adapter in the block? I have a leaky one, and planned to sodder the tube to the adapter. I just assumed the adapter would have threads that screw into the block but the new part I got is just a straight tube.

The dipstick tube is a pressed fit. You have to insert it in the adapter and tap on the opposite end of the tube to drive it down. A mounting bracket with clamp mounted on the cylinder head or valve cover will hold it in place and keep it from vibrating while the engine is running.

I was way over thinking it. After workin on newer cars im always amazed how stupid simple these rigs can be.
