Got my first f150 since I sold my 00 v6. I bought a 2010 recently. Did an oil change and redid some undercoating. Truck is in great shape for it's year and our winter salt. But why no gas cap? It's weird. just an open port. I use gas cans alot and these don't make it easy. Buddy who devised these should be fired. Or at least demoted to carrying gas cans. Really like the truck. Good to be back here. Sorry for the rant
LOL it's not an open port but I hear what ya saying. 1st time I saw this system made me do a double take, "Capless system" It's on all Fords and has been since 2009 for the F 150. It works for it's intended purpose in emission control. It's a sealed system that upon command by the PCM pressurizes and vents down into a vacuum.
Have fun with the little white funnel for adding gas from a can.

That "little white funnel" has a lot in common with the "spare key". Buy a used vehicle and there isn't one....

I don't buy used vehicles, not any more that is but I hear ya. Ford sells that little funnel and I think I remember seeing them pop up on ebay for like $5.00

We've got a '16 Expedition and a '14 F150 so we have "a spare".
It was supposed to protect us from ourselves. The average John (or Jane) Q. Public can't be trusted to put the gas cap back on tightly and therefore heads to the dealer to complain when their check engine light comes on.

LOL - yeah, the manufacturers tried a plastic lanyard and even putting a saddle for the in the fuel door to hold the cap while fueling. We the consumers, defeated them all!
A note on the serious side - I understand it is important to wipe off the "sealing" surfaces from time to time. (on the door and filler neck).

This plus saving a handful of nickels wholesale cost per unit for hundreds of thousands of gas caps is no small feat.
I have a '14. Not big on the idea of no cap over the flap. Too much chance for dirt and dust to get in to the fuel. There is a little locking style cap that seals the filler pretty well. I think it was about $10usd.
