Help, my husband replaced his whole exhaust this last sunday in the cold and we were hoping to fix a exhaust leak that seems to be coming from around the butterfly valve on the back of the turbo. His truck is a 94.5 PSD. I really noticed this leak when we drove it to get something to eat and I was in the passenger seat and was getting gassed out, of course, he said it has been that way for a long time whenever it is cold and I said NO. When we worked on the exhaust it looked like the fumes were coming from that valve area. Can anyone help me with this? If it is coming from those joints around the valve what can be done. It has been cold here lately and I have read that the valve closes some until the engine warms up and that seems to be when the exhaust really comes out. Also, with this new 4" exhaust is it suppose to sound like a tunnel sound when you are standing at the exhaust outlet pipe? I am really new to this type of work but love learning about how this works. Thank you for all and any help.
Thank you for the reply. We did a little investigating this weekend and found a small aluminum tube (I think) that attached some where under the cover for the fuel filter area. That whole cover was sut covered. He thought that it had something to do with the emissions since the other end attached to the manifold (I think that is what he said but I was not paying attention since I saw a shiny object somewhere else!!!! A.D.D.) Reattaching this seems to help with the exhaust. Some of the bolts were loose but that was the first thing that we looked at. Do not know how long this tube was disconnected or what it will do to performance once attached. Thanks for the help and suggestion.. T
