This past Monday I was in Death Valley when I got caught in a pretty heavy sandstorm with my 2019 F-250 6.2. I drove for about thirty minutes in the storm, and then I parked the truck while the storm lasted about 24 hours.
Yesterday I spent the whole day cleaning the truck, sand was everywhere, a very fine talc that is sticking to surfaces and needs al least two or three passes to get off. The engine bay is all kind of “dusted” and I’m wondering if I should wash it (…or have it washed). I opened the air filter and it was all caked up, so I bough immediately a new one and installed it.
What else should I do? I only have 22K miles on the truck, I would hate to let it being damaged…
Might be a good idea to check the cabin air filter as well. I don't think I'd worry too much about dust in the engine bay. If you want to clean the engine bay out, obviously avoid electrical components. I try to clean a motor when its warm out and I can let it sit for at least a day to dry out before trying to run it.
If the air filter was that caked with sand, how much went into the intake? May want to pull the intake hoses after the filter to make sure they're clean too.
just spray to bay out with garden hose. water shouldnt hurt any electric connections. i spray mine from time to time as they naturally collect dirt and road water turns it to mud
How is the glass? Drove my 2002 truck up to CAX at 29 Palms one year and experienced a heavy sandstorm. Driver side glass was all pitted but the paint made it out OK.

I was worried about the glass and the paint, but both seem to be ok…
