1. Radio...6 disc in-dash unit...I can only find 4 speakers and I thought I heard somewhere there is supposed to be 7....where are they? I looked and looked...only 4! also this system has no bass at all...290 watts but no bass...sucks
2. Engine...V8...I was looking at it this weekend and I could'nt see the spark plugs right away...are those dudes hidden or what?
And where did the radiator cap go? Is it hidden to? Is this thing maintenance free or what?
Oh man...sounds like the engineers are very smart at telling the customers to take their vehicles to the dealership for service. I would strongly advice you to get a shop manual. Check ebay for one of those CD-Roms.
You should take your car back to the dealer for the sound system. But before doing so, are there no bass whatsoever or do you hear bass, but not loud enough?
The Ford JBL/MACH/Audiophile system pumps out 145 RMS watts or 290 peak watts...30x4 peak and 15x4 RMS while the sub amp pumps out 85 RMS watts or 170 peak watts.
You have 7 speakers in 5 different locations--4 in the front doors, 2 in the rear doors, and the subwoofer at the right quarter panel.
The front "4" speakers are component plate speakers. That means the tweeters are separate of the woofers. I don't know what kind of effect that makes since Ford placed a crossover at the amp so the only sound the speakers produce is mids and highs while the lows are directed to the sub.
I just got an '02 EB with the same stereo set-up...thought it sounded awfully "tinny" for such a nice stereo system! Then found out why...if you got an owners manual with it, look at the radio controls. There's a button marked "DSP" (digital signal processing) on the top row of buttons...I'd be willing to bit that when you hit your DSP switch, it will show "NEWS".
You can use that switch (toggling with the Select button) to one of several modes: DSP OFF, NEWS, JAZZ CLUB, HALL, CHURCH and STADIUM. Each ones sounds a tad different and makes a huge improvement in the sounds quality.
If you hit the DSP switch again while one of those modes is showing, you can then select ALL SEATS, DRIVER SEAT or REAR SEATS. Try it and see what you think...check pg. 89 (or thereabouts) in your owners manual, or email me and I'll send you a copy.

FTRM...failure to read manual = on me!
I did see that while playing around with the radio.
I found something out about my system after I bought the car. Come to find out that my car originally had the cassette/cd radio in it. Somebody buying another explorer on the lot decided they did'nt want the 6 disc cd radio and the dealer swapped the cd/cassette in mine for the 6 disc from another. Lucky for me because I would rather have the 6 disc anyway. I'm just wondering now if mine would've had this stereo in the first place I would probably have had better speakers and a subwoofer. I may be getting the dealer to put in a subwoofer for me.
Mine has the same problem. The CD-6 was swapped into my truck at my request before I purchased it (the unit was on another vehicle sitting on the lot). From day 1 the thing has no bass whatsoever. Its like there is supposed to be a bass booster component, or something to that effect, which was supposed to be swapped along with the CD-6 unit itself.
Have you learned anymore?? What can be done to fix this?? I have the XLT so no subwofer came with the truck!
I talked to my salesman and he said I could bring it in and they would have their "radio" person check to see if the radio is defective or not. I have'nt done it yet because I'm tired of going thru the hassle's of dropping it off and such. The dealer was trying to find a subwoofer for me at a local salvage yard but did'nt have any luck. He said I would have to factory wiring to connect a subwoofer to that radio. I may look into it further when I get time. it's the "wifes" vehicle and it does'nt matter to her whether it has bass or not. But it bugs me when I'm driving it because I love bass! My car is a Maxima with a bose system that pumps out some great bass which spoiled me I guess. Let me know if ya figure something out.
maybe its got soemthing to do with crossover wired into the amp. There are 2 versions of the CD-6 player 1 made by Visteon and the other by Pioneer. I will try to figure out which version I have and then I'm going to call the maunfacturer

That sounds good Edward..please let me know what you find out.
I called my salesman and told him I would take it in tuesday and let his radio guy figure something out. Maybe they will fix it under warranty.
