When the engine is up to temperature, are the 2 heater hoses between the engine
and the Firewall hot? If they are, then hot coolant is flowing through the Heater Core.
The problem from what I have read, is the Blend Door inside the Heat/Ac housing.
The plastic hinge is probably broken not letting it shut off the cold out side air.

Your Thermostat could be a problem, the Motor Craft one is the only one recommended
for these engines. It may be not closing down to warm the engine, and staying open.

Another thing, Rats and Mice like to build nests inside the heater box.

There are a lot of threads on this subject, from what I read a PITA job to accomplish.

Mine is in the same sort of condition. Heat in summer and cool/cold/warm air in
the winter.
Not to worry, next summer you will have heat again.

Did a Google search and found a good write up on the 80 - 86 heat/ac unit, how it
works and fixes. Some good diagrams.

This site has a ton of info on these old trucks.

I'll have to start her up and check that. I hope they get hot.

I hope it's not broken but I'll tear out the blower and see.

Hm might be I'll look into this as well after the first two.

Hm definitely a good possibility where I live haha
Gotta love a good PITA what isn't these days.

Man that sucks I'm sorry to hear that. Boo!

Yay I can eat roasted me haha!

The Blower is easy access from under the Hood.
The Heater Core you get to from inside the cab on the passenger side.
As I remember you have to take out the Glove Box for access.
I replaced mine about 6 years ago when it sprung a leak inside the cab
late one night. My Wife said something is getting hot over here, the floor
is getting all wet. Good thing I had my tool bag. Used 2 needle Nose VG
and crimped off the 2 Heater Hoses.
Next day went to Auto Zone and replaced the Blower and Core, along with
Heater Hose. Cost wise wasn`t all that much.
Although I don`t know what brand/kind of hose they sell, but 3 yrs or so later
the hose started sweating coolant it`s full length.

First mistake was going to AZ.

I find that I need to remove leaves out my plenumm every several years. Also, I found a vacuum leak in my damper valve under the hood. My defrost did not work because the hinges broke. I used vinyl siding as a hinge and it has lasted more than ten years +-

The 80 - 86 Cowel vent under the windshield has long slots punched into the plate.
A good place for leaves and crap to get into the heat/vent system.

If you check the 87 and newer trucks, the Cowel plate has tiney little holes so not as
much crap can enter the system.

I got one off a 87 at PNP, had it sand blasted and then painted it

If you scroll this page up, there is 4 related links on heat problems and also a related
thread to read.
