1988 F-250 Ignition fails when alternator is plugged in
#16
Thought I had it figured out but NOT.
I have an electronic safe test light that show green when a ground is present. Checking the spout plug the light goes green when I touch the side going to distributor or the side going to computer, is this normal? Another thing I've found is that the EEC relay wiring looks really rough. I will tackle that tomorrow.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
Jack

Well, I'm back at again.
Yesterday I cleaned all the grounds and checked ref voltages at sensors and such. The more grounds I clean the worse it runs.
Yesterday I located the computer grounds for pin #'s 20,40 and 60.
#40 and 60 come together and connect to the battery negative terminal. There is a connector plug in those 2 wires about 4" from from negative terminal. When I unplug that connector and probe from the wires to the ground post I get 8.25 volts on one of them and 1.49 on the other with switch on.
Just for reference I check my 1989 F 150 at the same place and get .03 volts with the switch on.
Anyone know what this is telling me?
I hope someone tells me the computer is FRIED and I can move on. I keep hearing this voice in my head screaming (Carburetor)
I am just very happy to finally find something that might be wrong.
Thanks for all the help. I used it as best I can.
