oil cooler bypass valve

so I'm looking for some info on the oil cooler bypass valve on how it operates .Does it operate on oil temp ,

If the oil cooler collects too much debris and flow is restricted cause a 25psi back pressure, the bypass will open and allow hot oil around the cooler.
