Yeah. This is a "someday" thing. Lithium batteries have a completely different charge profile versus lead acid, so the charging system would need to know how to deal with it. A 4-cell LFP battery would have a nominal voltage of 12.8 volts, so it's pretty close, but the profile of the charge cycle is completely different.
After over 40 years of wrenching for a living, I can unequivocally state batteries are a crap shoot no matter what brand so I buy what I can replace any time of day or night if needed. Walmart Everstart Maxx. (Johnson Controls) same company that makes Motorcraft batteries.
Decent price and a 5 year warranty which is good. Getting one when your truck won't start @ 3am trying to go to work. Priceless.
What's you guys feeling on a 2018 4 year old Motorcraft battery that reads 80% @12.81 volts after a 5 hour charge at 2 amps. It read 80% as pre test before charging. Edge Monitor voltage read 14.5 with normal intown driving. Getting ready for a cross country trip for Christmas. Truck has 28K miles. If I need to replace looking at a DieHard 850 CCA. Opinions are welcome.

I feel your pain. Personally, with all the wonky stuff I hear and read about with glitches in electronics when these batteries start to go bad, and given the length and stress of you cross country journey, I'd probably replace it. They never die when it's convenient. If I didn't replace it, I would make sure I had jumper cables.
I would replace it now, while you are able to get one. Who knows what this supply line issue will affect by the time you take your trip. You’d hate to be stuck somewhere where the battery you need or something close enough to work isn’t a available.
Thanks. what's anyone's feeling about a DieHard H7 at advance Auto or Duralast H7 at Auto zone both are local to me.
Can you just replace the battery with out a reboot of the trucks entire system as I have read with a NAPA Battery? I have the ability to plug a spare motorcycle battery into the OBll plug with a jumper when I change it out. Is that good enough? Thanks
I have another battery question went into self diagnostic an went to voltage it was 11.7 volt before I started it
went down the street I assume it was charging cause it went 13.8 volts An stoped just idling it went down to
12.7 volts. I was thinking it was a battery cause it’s almost 5 years old. Now I see posts it could be the alternator
yea it’s a 17 f150 3.5 ecoboost xlt. Thank you for all and any help.
OK here's my ending... so far. Because of having 2 race cars with Odyssey batteries I bit the bullet and bought one for my truck. it was actually $75 over the cost of others so I didn't really feel that bad. It's also an 850 cca. I used a jumper battery, an old HD battery from my motorcycle, to the OBD ll connection and it worked perfect no relearning and all my personal settings in the stayed the same.
I don't really how smart these trucks are but I think I learned something. I jumped the stop/start system right after I bought the truck but 3 years later removed the jumper and just push the button when I started driving. For the at least the last year when I would forget it never operated and at times when I would listen to the radio without the engine running a note would pop on to the dash for low voltage. I knew it wasn't low but the battery did only tested 80% and started the truck just fine. Well guess what? At my first stop without the engine even being up to full operating temp it quit running with my foot on the brake. The truck computers must sense the new battery at 100% charge is my guess. We shall see how this goes.
Shawn....I think your battery is getting ready to strand you. Your voltage reading is telling you the alternator is probably OK. Just my opinion but alternators last over 100,000 miles today and if you have less.... I bought a battery analyzer/tester from Harbor Freight 5 years ago and it has really helped for not much money spent. A parts store can do the same.
Thank you that was my gut feeling. After doing some research I think I going with O’Reillys. Agm battery there made by deka.
Son works for O’riellys so good discount don’t hurt.
