Torque Converter Cost?
I have a 97 F150 4X4 with a 34OD. Around 40mph under light acceleration I have a rumble type sound, another article described it like going over rumble strips and that's exactly it. Once I get above 45mph it goes away or if I accelerate hard I don't have any shudder or slippage. When this starts, if I just keep the accelerator in the same position, it will shudder for a second and then stop for a second, shudder and stop, shudder and stop. Some kind of a problem with some clutch plates engaging and disengaging seems to fit the symptoms.
I'm guessing that I might be having problems with the torque converter. I guess I have a few questions yet about it.
1) Are there any "cheap" fixes?
2) As silly as this sounds....will this get significantly worse over time or do damage to the rest of the transmission?
3) Can this wait to be repaired or is this something that I need to fix asap.
4) What would be the estimated repair cost to fix or replace the torque converter unit?
As always, thank you for any wisdom you can provide.
