Hello, I have a 92 F150 extendecab 4x4 with 5.8l
I am experiencing a check engine light at slow speeds(up to 40 MPH) when I speed up it goes out but returns every so often until I slow down and the it stays on. It does not set a code and so far always resetts when I shut the truck down.
There is no noticable performance drop. Anyone have some info on this ? Its driving me nuts.
i had the 1988 f-150 and the check engine lite would come on every once in a while. sooner or later i found out that i needed a battery. i guess it was about 2 months later. i checked it out when it had no voltage potential and would not turn the engine over. i replaced the battery and no more check engine lite. usuall y i wait until the truck tells me by breaking down until i look into a check engine lite. i go by the saying if its not broke dont fix it. i do normal tune ups nad oil changes and brake replacement. a lt of times chasing codes is a waste of time. i had a bad map sensor on my 1995 f-150 4x4 5.0 and do yo think the codes told me? i checked them and the map sensor did not show up. i did the good ol fashioned troubleshooting and it worked the truck runs fine now. chasing codes is like chasing a ghost. my suggestion is keep running it and ignore it.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the "check engine" light was mandated by the EPA and comes on whenever the anti-pollution equipment is malfunctioning. Some of these malfunctions affect how well your engine runs, some don't.
Thanks for the replies. I figured out the "Check Engine Light" In the middle of rushour traffic yesterday. The Fuel pressure regulator on my Injection system stuck wide open and created a hydrostatic lock in my engine. The symptoms were almost the same as a blown headgaskett. of course the warranty is expired! Today after leaving the ford dealer with 300$ I'll have my rig back.Is there a chance of fuel having made its way into the oil pan with something like this?
Yes you will have fuel in the oil.I would have expected the repair facility to be aware of this and have at least suggested that you let them change the oil or advise you to get it done.
Yeah, the dealer did call me and told me they analyzed the oil and did not find any fuel contamination. They changed the plugs and cleaned the truck for me. Since I had just had the brakes done(They went out comming down the mountains) they changed the plugs for free. Just to be sure though, I will change it this weekend.
