Hello. When i turn my parking lights on and the factory fog lights then the high beams are on and when trying to go to low beams nothing changes. Also the Back up alarm 'off' light is on and there is no back up alarm even though i didn't turn it off.
So my question is 'is there some sort of 'multi-functional' part that controls all of these or is it that they are independant and just all going bad at the same time?
BTW i did do a search but found no results for this problem.
Any help here would be appreciated.
A lot of wiring is dependent upon other wiring. i.e. The high beams won't come on unless the low beams are on OR the switch is pulled toward the driver into the "momentary" position.
My first thought is the light switch, but I don't believe that the high beam wiring goes through it. That makes the most likely culprit the turn-signal/high-beam switch. It changes easily (I changed one on my truck a short time back and have another ready to go into the Excursion).
But there could be other issues, too. A short, bad relay, etc. If you've got an older truck with similar switches, try swapping them before you throw money at parts!
Also the Back up alarm 'off' light is on and there is no back up alarm even though i didn't turn it off.
This means you have a failed sensor. Have someone else put the truck in reverse with the ignition ON (not the engine, just for safety) and put your ear on the sensors. The one that doesnt tick is bad.
Spray the sensor with wd40 and it might wake up again. It might not, but a shot of wd40 is less work than a replacement sensor
