Diesels use hydroboost and gas engines use vacuum boost. Diesels do not generate enough vacuum, so the *have* to use hydroboost. It is more complicated and expensive, but works well.
My diesel has vacuum assist (11,500 GVWR) and the brakes work just fine. I’ll wager over 75% of the 17+ Ford Super Duty diesels you see on the road have vacuum assist.

Incorrect. Many of these diesel trucks have vacuum brakes. Vacuum pumps are a thing.
Even my old 1988 F350 7.3l IDI had a vacuum pump and vacuum brakes.
My truck just arrived at the dealer and I stopped by to take a peak. To my surprised it appears I have the vacuum boost and not hydro boost brakes. CCLB, FX4, camper package, 7.3 4.30, 18AT, 11,900 GVWR.
