I purchased a 2015 f-350 about 5 months ago. Extended warranty was supposed to be bumper to bumper and cover "everything ". Truck had just over 100k on it. Been in and out of the shop chasing an internal antifreeze leak for the past 2+ months.. then we loose power coming home the last hitch. Dealership says they finally found the antifreeze leak, intercooler. And BTW you lost #4 due to a broken glow plug and need a new motor to the tune if 28k and warranty Co says these issues are not covered..wth? Is it not possible to repair without replacing the motor? I understand that something coming apart in the cylinder can cause major havoc, but we drove 300 miles like that getting home. Seems like if it was going to go through the turbo or something, it would have already done that.
Carefully read the agreement and other referenced material and you'll find what is and isn't covered so that you know what you can debate with the dealer and/or third party warranty. Ford's ESP options for example, which is the only warranty supported at all Ford dealers, is not close to bumper to bumper even for the Premium care level. For example, Ford's premium care doesn't cover the DPF which is a $4,500 component. On top if Premium care for Diesel owners, there are another two optional ESP "Diesel engine care" package levels. It gets expensive.
There is no Bumper to Bumper ESP on the market. There is a list and that's all that's covered. If you really look at the list most of these things last the life of the truck.
i question the glow plug. I would get a second opinion from another dealer.
A fully dressed new 2020+ engine is only $17k.... Just an engine swap labor time is around 30 hours IIRC?? Even at a $150 labor rate, you are looking at $4,500. So $21k if you go with a 2020 engine... https://parts.ford.com/shop/en/us/en...ine-13475669-1
A long block 2015 is only $8k... You will need a decent amount of labor and parts but you should be able to save most of them from your current. This option really shouldn't be over $15k depending on the overall damage to parts. https://parts.ford.com/shop/en/us/en...assy-8984215-1
I can't imagine where the hell they are getting $28k? Maybe they are quoting you a full engine rebuild? Most full rebuilds labor hours are in the neighborhood of 60-70 hours. That's from the truck rolling into the shop, engine pull, rebuild and reinstall.... which at $150/hr that's $9k to $10.5k. So maybe that?
Maybe they are including core charge? New fully dressed 2020+ core charge is $3.5k....
