I want a transfer fuel tank in the bed of my truck but with my truck being a short bed, I don’t want to lose the real estate. Are there any removable tanks on the market that I could install for road trips and remove and keep in my garage when at home? I’ve searched but I don’t see anything like this.
I use an ATI 41 gallon aux tank. It shipped UPS so it is what? 70-75 pounds max? Get it empty, Loosen the bolts, tip it up get it really empty. Pull 4 bolts, pull off the rubber hose, and put a plug in hose going down into the truck, take the tank out. There is a valve on the bottom of the tank. The only problem is you got to think ahead.
All tanks are removable. Unhook fuel line from tank, unbolt tank, remove. Just find a size/shape that would make it easier for you if you have to wrestle it out by hand.
I too have looked into this…but RDS makes a tank that is 45 gallons and only takes up 9.5” of bed space. I think if I were to buy a tank, it would be this one and I’d just leave it in.
I have used an auxiliary tank for several years. This time on my ‘22 F-350 I did not drill the bed and use bolts. I used 1-1/2”x1-1/2” aluminum angle that extended about 2” on each side of the tank. I put an eye-bolt and turn buckle on each end and used the factory tie down to pull the tank in place.
It is very secure and easily unhooked if I wanted to remove it. However, I have a long bed and still have more room with the tank in place than a short bed. I also have 90 gallon capacity total.
BTW- it fits under my hard folding tonneau with easy access to tank when folded up.
I had this same tank in my ‘16 F-250 short bed and left it in place all the time.
