My 2000. Expedition XLT 4X4 started making a kinda grinding/rubbing sound when I am turning from a stopped position and giving it gas at the same time. The sound was slight at first but now I refrain from gassing it to much while turning because it has become quite intense until I straighten out, then all is good. I have had 2 inspections done on the front linkage and shocks. Everything looks okay. No signs of rubbing, shocks look fine, no signs of looseness in joints. So, I had a new belt put on and replaced the transfer case but it's still doing it. I even tried going in and out of 4 wh. dr. a few times see if that changed the sound. No luck. I'm out of idea's and now broke, does this kind of issue sound familiar to anyone? Any suggestions?
okay, I just had the transfer case replaced trying to fix thi issue. There was a all around improvement to the operating but the issue still persists. I have had the current mechanic take a drive with me so he could hear what I'm talking about. I think he nailed it when he said the rear differential, might be the clutch. I do have 4 x 4 all wheel drive. Puting weight on the back caused the shuttering to become quite pronounced. My question for the community is if anybody has any idea what the ballpark cost of fixing such a thing? I got to get a loan to do this and need a good guesstimate to go on. Any idea folks?
