Bad distributor?

I have an 86 5.0 efi and it runs like crap and tries to die when idle and if you try to keep it going it backfires out of the the exhaust and sometimes intake, it jumps and bucks up to 30mph and past that it smoothens out but if you let off it does the same thing, I've checked map sensor, injectors, tps, fuel pressure regulator, and all the sensors and have came to the conclusion that it might be a timing problem, like it jumped cam timing or somethings up with the distributor, and tires of throwing money and time into and see no progress so im looking for any help i can get

Have you checked the timing? Do you know how to check the timing? There is a special plug you have to unplug to check it on your EFI engine.

Here is the connector you pull apart to check timing with a timing light. Plug it back together when your done.

I also found corrosion in the coil connector, here's the OEM terminals if you want to do it right if you find issues in there.

I dont think our trucks have a CEL?

I would think if the wires are not in the port plug the wire ends have ti be close by.
Also from what I seen posted them ports hardly work with code readers so you need to use a jumper to get the codes.

EGR valve on those trucks? Had a similar sounding issue with an S10 Blazer. EGR valve was hung open by a chunk of hard carbon that came out of the passageway and hung it open. Happened twice before a small piece of pepsi can aluminum was placed under the EGR valve the last time it was reinstalled.
