Powertrain Control Module
Have a 98 Explorer 4.0l. Was wondering what this module does and if it is defective can it cause a rough idle before the vehicle is shifted. I ask this because when I start my truck it idles rough, but if I put the truck in neutral, reverse, neutral, then drive the rough idle disappears. ?????????????????????????????????????

The pcm is the brain an uses all its sensors to controll timing and fuel mixture
could it go bad, yeah!, problably but not likely!
rough ilde without a cel light on in the dash is usually a dirty or bad IAC valve
It can be other things too .
I would get your car scanned for some DTC's
If you can't ,then start with normal tuneup things like
plugs
wires
air cleaners
pvc valve
