Hi I’m new here I have a 97 ford250 powerstroke 7.3 it was my grandfathers which I got recently a tree fall on it and dented the tailgate pretty good on the top of it would I have to completely replace the tail gate or is there a way I can take the dent out and save the original tail gate
It might cost you more to repair the damage than to replace it, but I understand it has sentimental value to it and that is worth whatever you are willing to pay. It does have some sharp creases and would require a lot of work to get it to look right, but it is probably doable.
You may have to search around a bit in order to find a shop willing to take the job on.
(@z31freakify ) Adam is in your neck of the woods (NM) and might know of a body shop that can help you out. He has done an extensive amount of work on all sorts of vehicles and is a trusted FTE'r.
Might I impose and ask if the tree falling on the truck turned into a family event where it might be "nice" to see that dent each time you approach the truck from the tailgate side. Sometimes the marks of memories are not necessarily a bad thing.
Those tailgates are going for over $500 now days, I would take it in and get it repaired, the aluminum trim is well worth over $200, and looks to be in mint condition.

I’m okay with dropping the money down so you know any body shops who are willing to repair it who are good? So if I’m understanding correctly from what your saying I can get it repaired without having to replace the entire tailgate ?
I'm in Las cruces area, I bet you can find a decent body shop in Burque, the best body shops always have a lowrider on display just FYI.
Alright thanks man I’ll keep looking around over here then thanks for telling me about the tailgate and how it can be fixed and not just completely replaced , oh and another thing I’m looking for wheel opening chrome moldings for the rear quarter panels any idea where I can find some I’ve been looking but I can’t find any at all.
