Started experiencing blank display screen on cold starts a few weeks ago. Seemed related to cooler weather. Screen would come back on when truck was started later in the day – presumably when truck and outside temperature warmed. Fuses are good. Got it to come on yesterday afternoon after several efforts. Performed the soft reset and the system reset. Made the mistake of shutting it off before I could run the self diagnostic check on the APIM and try updating the software. It’s running SYNC 3 version 3.0. Worked on it today but I couldn’t get it to come on at all so I physically removed and re-installed the screen/APIM module in an effort to re-seat all of the electrical connections. Didn’t work. Any suggestions for what else I might try before I turn to eBay for a replacement APIM?
Never did get the old unit to come up long enough to run any diagnostics or update the software so I went ahead with the APIM replacement.
Found the vendor Watson Tech on the F150 Forum.
Ordered SYNC 3 APIM Wednesday night. It arrived this afternoon. Took about a half hour to exchange the APIM's and it works like a charm. No programming required.
Thank you Watson Tech!
Mine went out this morning and hasn’t come back on. I realize this is an old post, but how much was your ACIM? And did you have to order it specialized so there wasn’t programming needed?
My APIM was 329 from Watson Tech. Looks like it would be 389 today. No programming was needed. I provided VIN so I believe it was set up for my vehicle. Swop was easy and I haven't had any problems with the Watson unit.
