I am looking at buying a F-250 with the 7.3. I was planning on buying new (2022) however a good deal came up on a 2020 with the 7.3, only 13,000 miles, EXCELLENT condition. I am aware of three early (potential?) issues with the new 7.3/10spd drive train which came out in 2020; spark plug wires, front main seal leaking, 10 speed transmission eating itself and pushing metal shards out. I worry my trade in (19 ram 1500 Laramie) won't be as value in the future when my new trucks gets made...
1) Are there any other issues?
2) Has the main seal issue been resolved?
3) Has the transmission issue been resolved?
4) The spark plug wire is minor and an easy fix, not worried about that.
The used is about the same price as the new, but is gold certified.
I am getting an XLT so same screen...
For $2,000 more (if my trade in holds its value) the used one gets me (over my ordered truck);
-XLT premium package (over the XLT value)
-Heated seats
-Locking under seat storage
-Center console with rear power outlets for kids
-5th wheel
-Spray in bed liner
-Chrome wheels
-$1,800 retractable bed cover
-GOLD Ford warranty certified
They made revisions to the TCM programming mid year, I think august. Most post “job 2” build dates don’t have the transmission problems so look at that.
The crank seal has a revised part number now and guys that have had it replaced don’t have a issue with the new one.

Hope that helps.
thanks for reply. How do you determine if it is a “job 2”?

Build date, but I can’t recall the date for certain that made the changes but I believe it was August. I would find out the build date and then if needed you could do some more digging on here to find the info. I read it here some where.
Many of the issues would have a recall or TSB attached to them. Recalls would be taken care of before you take ownership, and TSB repairs would have been done if the previous owner experienced the concern. The dealer should be able to provide you with a repair history and a list of open recalls and TSB's.
I'm not understanding how a used truck that costs as much as a new one is a good deal though. I understand it's in great shape and is a CPO vehicle, but you pay for that extra warranty and additional inspections in the form of a higher purchase price. Personally I don't see the value of having that on a truck that new and with low miles.
I will say this re: ordering new vs finding used. At least around here, I couldn't find a preowned like I wanted and when I did find ones that were close (from an equipment perspective) they were asking more than new. I admittedly got lucky, but I ordered 8/25 and it's being delivered this weekend. So it didn't take too terribly long. I ordered an SRW f350 CCLB w 7.3 and 4.40 gears, lariat value w 5th wheel prep.
