I just downloaded a map update from syncnavigation.com. The file size is 11.7GB. I don’t really understand all of the Sync pieces of software but I believe the update is only for the navigation (maps). My current Maps Version is NA119. So far I haven’t seen what version I downloaded.
I remember reading posts last year stating the USB had to be removed at a certain point between reboots. Is that still the case or can I just follow the provided instructions?
I currently have Sync 3.4.20136. I turned on Auto Update and a newer version is being downloaded. I assume I should get all auto updates installed before updating the maps?
How / where do I find out what the current version of Sync3 is?
The version of SYNC will be displayed on the screen.
Just tap settings, then General.
The version will also show on the Owenr.Ford.com website.
Just curious but do you use or have you tried Apple CarPlay or Android Auto?
The navigation via either one of these are far superior to the factory navigation and they’re always updated whereas the factory navigation maps are at best a couple of years behind.
I received notification of the map update as well. A bit shocked at the prices for these 'updates'. Especially seeing as the maps that were loaded when I bought my 2018 F-250 were already seriously out-of-date. Now you want me to fork over basically the cost of a dash-mount GPS unit. One that comes with Lifetime Updates and also can be set for towing a trailer? And I'll still have a built-in navigation system that is out-of-date? Mmmm. Probably not.
Oh. And my wife will be able to make changes to the dash-mount GPS while we are traveling. Unlike the Sync system that apparently doesn't think you'll ever have a passenger in the right seat.
What do you expect from a system that displays the message "Satellite Acquiring Signal" when it can't see the sky? Unless Ford installed a transmitter capable of sending a signal to a satellite this message makes no sense. (Of course, it it can't transmit to the satellite, how would the system know the satellite is trying to acquire the signal.) It should read "Acquiring Satellite Signal" or maybe "Satellite Signal Lost".
