86 5.0 efi cam

i have an 86 5.0 efi and was interested in getting the comp 31-255-5 cam and was wonder besides new lifters is there anything else i should do before installing it, the transmission went out and i have a new one ready to be put in and then it decided to jump the timing and so while i have the engine out im going to replace all the gaskets and seals and maybe get rid of the old smog cam for something more efficient, the top end and internals are all stock and im going to see what heads i have later if any of yall need any more info let me know and ill try to reach back when i can

If the stock cam is good I would keep it in there. The ford stock valve train is not adjustable. If you read the fine print on some of those aftermarket Ford cams, they will tell you further modifications to the valve train may be needed to adjust the lifter pre-load. More money, more hassle, with not much gained. You can't modify the stock computer system easily anyway, so any power gains you might get are not going to be much.
