Question Power Steering upgade

Does anybody offer a better bolt in power steering pump for specifically a 1993 F-150 4x4 with a 5.0? I have an AGR pump on it now that I put on it years ago. I don't remember the specs of it but I think it got up to 1100psi. I don't remember what the gpm flow was. It did stop all of the growling and whining that my factory and a lot of stock pumps do. I am wanting to put hydro assist on it to help take stress off the frame. I have put hydro assist on my Jeep and Samurai and used a TC style pump. This is a show truck so I'm looking for a clean looking set up. I have a straight axle in the truck already. Just looking to see if there is anything available. The AGR steering box is getting worn and will probably replace it at the same time. I wish PSC offered a steering box still. I've seen a couple comments where people have used Super Duty steering boxes but not found a good write up on them. Any help is appreciated.

Your best option is probably a van bracket with a saginaw p pump. Small block vans are easy to find for parts

Agreed on Saginaw swap. My 88 and 92 both have them, I will tell you that finding a 4.9 with a van took a while!

Redhead makes great boxes.

I wouldn’t know about the straight 6s, but 460 vans are rare as hen’s teeth

Just saw a 91 in the yard with some conversion on it, that BBF was shoved in there!

I did a quick search and found several 4.9 E-series. Did see a few small block and possibly a couple big block e-450's. I'm going to call the yards tomorrow and verify. I eventually will want to switch to a big block. Would a Class A motorhome have the same saginaw pump and bracket as the E-series?

why? If you can find one, saginaw brackets are much less than that, and a replacement pump will be way cheaper as well.

I like the simplicity of the pump you posted. A simple bolt on which is what I was hoping to find. While the pressure is good I don't know if the flow is enough to supply a steering box and cylinder. PSC use to post their pressures and flow rates. My TC style pumps are 1650psi and 4.5 gpm. From the recommendations above I guess I will research the flow rates of a Saginaw pump and try to find a pump for my needs.

The bracket for the 460 has been a tough find. No pick and pulls anywhere close and the ones I have seen for sale are not cheap.

haha yeah tell me about it. I’d still try and hold out for a saginaw bracket, it just seems like a better option. I’d think motorhomes, buses, and ambulances would have them as well but I can’t say for sure

The lee ps link has to be a TC saginaw pump but in a c2 housing. The P pump is too large to fit in the smaller design and the TC pump is the smallest saginaw mainstream pump. If it has a bearing by where the pulley goes, its almost definitely a TC Pump. If its not a bearing but a bushing instead, it might be a CB pump but I dont think they would go up in size and weight for a CB pump when a TC is smaller and can most easily be made to work.

I have a theory about making Ford ranger TC pump conversion brackets put to use on a F series with a 5.0, 5.8, 4.9, and 7.5. no idea about diesels they are on their own tho.

so this is an example of my trucks bracket (96 4.9 with ac) i believe.

Im a little sad now becaue it looks like the C2 bracket for a ranger is smaller than the f series....... but i may be wrong, i dont know much about the C2 pump. Anyone can chime in expertise?
If the spacing of the holes is the same, the bracket i pictured above to use a TC pump would only use 2 of the mounting spots and you would have to presumably pick two spots, the outer most on its own hole prob not being the best one to use if you had to choose. If the spacing would work, that is....

if one can successfully mount a TC Pump, you can just get a remote reservoir modeland find a way to mount it if it was in anyway awkward how it sat on the bracket and then you would need to do something about the pressure line(no idea if fitting is same) and you would need to find a 17mm shaft pulley for it too. tc pumps can spin fast without issues so a lot of care would not be necessary but a larger pulley prob means more wrap too. i think.

Someone please tell me it will work and then someone tell me where im being hopeful and its not possible based on something i missed (((

I like the idea of this. I don’t know what the bolt pattern difference is between the Ranger and Full size pumps are. 90% sure the first gen Rangers used the full size steering box. What is the difference between the 5.0/5.8 mounting and the 7.5 mounting holes for the pump. PSC offered a adapter for the Saginaw pump to fit the 5.0/5.8 bracket but not the 7.5 bracket. I like the idea of the remote reservoir. I used PSC’s reservoirs on my Jeep and Samurai. They filter the fluid and hold more fluid. But for somebody wanting to look more factory a pump mounted reservoir and just easier there are those style pumps too.

Look for buses or rv's. That's what I got mine from, and there's at least one more in the local yard.
