Ham radio install and SYNC issues
Ham Radio: I have a Yaesu FT8900, which is a radio with a detachable control head. Question 1) Can I mount the radio portion to the firewall of the truck inside the cab? Are there any problems other than the obvious "don't mess with existing cabling/linkages"? I just want to be able to screw the mounting bracket for the radio to the firewall. Question 2) In my last truck I mounted the radio speaker on the driver's doorpost within 6-8 inches of my head. But this truck has plastic caps marked "airbag" high on the inside of the doorpost. Are there airbags there? And if so is there a way I can still mount the speaker there?
SYNC with MyFord: Somehow the bluetooth in the truck will allow me to play music from my phone (Android Pixel 3A with Android 11) but will not let me let me hear truck voice announcements or hear phone audio even tho the caller can hear me. So I'm trying to figure if it's the APIM or the ACM that needs a spanking. Can I use my ODB2 reader and the Android TORQUE app to diagnose? Will it give me any info relative specific to the Bluetooth issue?
I appreciate any wisdom!
Thanks
Dan
You can check by removing where to place your screws by removing any grab handles then just pull off that plastic post it's just snapped in !!
Also you say Ham but either way vhf/uhf are also very tipically for good results they are wired direct to the battery using appropriate size wiring !!
Run both positive & also negative wires direct for best results ....Fuse the positive as close to the battery as possible....
vhf & uhf also require # 14 wire with NO other splices attached for other radios power ports etc. !!
Also when leaving trk you should probably turn your radio to off !!
