Surprisingly compatible across model years
I've got a 2012 base model (former fleet) Expedition and I've done a lot of picking from the 07-08 trucks that are finally starting to filter into the u pick type yards. I was able to find and install a manual 3rd row seat (came with extra storage originally) using the original bolt holes, ditto with a center console (without the console shifter or climate stuff). But what really surprised me was the 08 overhead DVD player. It is tied into the CAN-BUS and I figured it wouldn't work because the 2012 never had that option. To save myself from having to cut any wires, I grabbed a cheap universal OBD plug from the store and connected the 12V+, Ground, MS-CAN+, and MS-CAN- wires to the DVD player. Plugged it in, started the truck, and it powered right on. Now I just have to pull down the headliner and mount the player to the roof. The real difficult part.
TL;DR: 2007-2012 are surprisingly compatible even with discontinued features.
