Hi All... just got my new Super Duty and really like it with the exception of some obvious paint issues. I've been working with the dealer and Ford to get it resolved and they have agreed to fix most of the items and while the paint is being worked, they are going to align the doors better. Drivers door has a bit of a misalignment at the front bottom. I'll say that Star White is a very hard color to see paint defects in due to the brightness in the sun, but when you find a defect, it's there for sure.
Now the bad, Ford rejected fixing the inner surface of the tailgate down by the hinge area. On my Star White truck, I can see primer / metal through the paint. Ford claims that's normal and I haven't been able to inspect other trucks to see if that is really accurate. The paint on my 2013 F150 was fully covering that area. Can anyone confirm or describe what their paint looks like inside the tailgate, near the hinge?
Thanks!

I have seen quite a few F series trucks with thin or no paint on the sides of the tailgate especially by the hinge. I remember this being an issue 10 years ago, and apparently not much has changed.
My truck has a couple of P&B issues as well, going in next week to get them fixed.
On the fuel door, there is a cloudy area in the paint, and the driver side fender to hood gap is big enough to stick your finger in.
Also, I noticed on my Iconic Silver truck that none of the under side of the hood, or inner areas of the fenders in the engine compartment are painted body color, just primer. It's not flat, semi glossy, but it is gray, not silver, with a definite separation line between the body color and the primer.
Now, since the body color is silver, it is not a glaringly noticeable thing, can't imagine how much it would stand out if the paint was black or blue or some other color, and then just primer under hood.

There was a whole big argument on the Ford Facebook groups about that. The inner fenders and under hood are no longer color matched. They pick a primer that closely matches the exterior paint. Someone mentioned that its a coated primer that is good at protecting from the oil/grim that eventually gets under the hood. Ford also for some reason doesn't use a hood liner or insulator anymore. I thought that was odd. Supposedly they stopped all that in 2020.

Is star white a 3 part paint process? If so it seems like they use the 3rd (final) spray on the exterior panels and leave everything else with base + second coat.

They don't apply "full" coats and no clear coat give this visual effect. You will see some color there, black, blue, red, whatever. The ICONIC just looks close without full coverage and no clear.

No, there is only primer, sharp cutoff line between body color and primer.
On my 2022 both my back doors have serious paint problems. Once I noticed it I called dealer and was given a number to contact Ford. In return they wanted to paint both back doors. Unacceptable to me on a 75 k truck with 200 miles on it. So I have decided to trade it out !!!!!!

So what is acceptable?
Why doesn't matter if it's a $75,000 truck with 200 miles?....... You seem to be applying if this was a $20,000 vehicle would be acceptable?
Did you want them to buy it back? Respray the entire vehicle?

Is it the area on the leading edge of the rear door? Also looks like some finger prints on the front door? Tough to tell whats what, whats shadow whats not. If my truck has a light layer of dust, anywhere thats rubbed or touched can give a similar look.
I probably would have decided to do the same, trade it. I wouldn't be satisfied knowing 2 doors were repainted, and the chance it would be noticeable, if not right away, possibly down the road. It really isn't acceptable at any price point IMO.
The paint and body alignment on my '21 is perhaps the worst I've ever seen on a brand new vehicle. A lot of it I discovered after I waxed the truck for the first time and couldn't believe how many issues I found. I think waxing the truck made it stand out more, which is pretty disappointing because the Antimatter Blue color sure is pretty in the sunlight. There is a ton of debris in the paint that is blatantly obvious from even 5 feet away. The door and hood gaps are all uneven. If they have somebody inspecting the paint on these things, it must be Stevie Wonder or Ray Charles because a lot of the issues I've seen are plain as day, and frankly unacceptable on a $40k+ vehicle.
Wait till you guys polish your trucks and see all the dirt thats in the paint !! I chose carbonized gray, and im glad i did. It has pretty good coverage almost everywhere. I had a 19 ingot silver, if you looked down the side of the truck the paint was splotchy. so i figured iconic silver was probably gonna be similar. I have a front door thats mis aligned at the bottom that i need to get taken care, as for the dirt in the paint I have been fixing that myself as I find it. I think the paint jobs on these trucks are ****ty at best.
