carbuerator time
Is anyone running a road demon and how do you like it? Is it "easy" to fiddle with?
I'm debating between a 4160 and the RD.
I'm not sure how to quantify "easy" but an example is I'm not going with the street demon because from my understanding.
the carb needs to come off since the screws holding the top plate are on the bottom.
If the RD is like working on a 4160/4180 I'm good with that I'm assuming it is.
Figured I'd see if anyone is running one for a real life feedback.
I like what I have read about the road demons but I'm not sold on the extra cost yet.

With that said, l have a 650cfm Street Demon that l bought for my old FE360 truck but never mounted.. l don't have it listed for sale (yet), but it seems pretty unlikely that I'll be using it on my newer 4.9. .
You can PM for details if you think it's something you might be interested in.
I have a vaccuum secondary Summit 750 cm carburetor on my 71 Olds 98. They are clones of the old Holley 4010. It works great and is definitely streetable. After setting the timing I adjusted the idle mixture screws with a vacuum gauge and it runs like a champ.
What engine does the OP have in his truck? If it's a 4.9l I6 do they make a square bore 4 barrel adapter for the intake manifold?

I don't know about an adapter, I've never seen one. I'd assume it would have to be pretty tall. Maybe tall enough to cause clearance issues.
There are 2 and 4 bbl intakes for the 4.9. Theyre pretty pricy though, usually around $400. I'd like to have one if for no other reason than l'm more familiar with 4 bbl carbs than the 1 bbl l currently have.

I do like what I have read with the summit carbs and yes they are very reasonable. Looks like they are easy to work with on the vehicle as well.
Thats my only concern with the road demon.

A 750 cfm Summit carb would work great on your 460 as long as it has a square bore intake.

Which is nice to not have to replace the intake as well.

Even if it didn't match your intake manifold, I'm sure they still make adaptor plates that would make it work. I know they did back in the 1970's.
But the one that comes with the ford kickdown lever doesn't have any kind of booster, the other one has a downleg but it is not recommended for automatics since there is no kickdown supplied and
I didn't see one on summits site. I may have overlooked it as well.
Can kickdown levers interchange? Possibly swap the one on the 4180 over? Seems like that would be too easy but maybe being both holley's idk, my carb experience has been fairly superficial up
to this point.

Did you talk to someone at Summit, they are very helpful.
Here are the C6 kickdown cables and brackets. The techs at Summit should be able to help you order the right parts.

Even back when we were building our race car, I taught my son to call and speak to the experts. Example, he spent 2 hours on a phone call to the west coast talking to a shock Engineer and learning about suspension set up. That was back in 2006.
