so on my cheap equus mechanical guage i get near 0 psi after warming up and driving for a bit at idle and around 15psi with higher revs so i want to take a look at the pickup in the sump and the pump but i want to go into this armed with information about any tourbles with removing the oil pan while on jack stands in the street. i dont have a lift nore pit and i dont have garage space either so i dont want it sitting panless for more than a day. so is this pan on the 302 on a 1972 e100 supervan easy to remove or a pita to remove?
if its a pita im going to trailer it to my new place if its easy then i can drive it there after swapping or atleast cleaning the oil pump and pickup tube.
reason i suspect its the pump or possibly the gasket for the pump or possibly a clogged screen and not say a plugged oil guage line is because it started creeping up in heat with a new radiator installed old ones top cap literally blew off. it could also be a stuck open bypass valve as well ... by the way where is the bypass valve located on these vans and can they be easily poked at to make sure they move properly?
I do have a shop manual somewhere but im moving and it is burried. I have not looked under the van to see anything yet. i will be doing that probably on friday i think unless the consensus is this job requires removing the engine or tearing apart the front suspension or cutting out the crossmember. basically anything short of unbolt it and let it hang or twist it a special way or unbolt something else trivial the van is going to get trailered to the new place then worked on sometime later.

geeze looked underneath it and there is a massive crossmember under the oil pan infact the oil pan is practically molded around that crossmember. well im guessing that pretty much answers my question but if someone does have experience with these any info or insight would be excellent!
Haha, you will find few on here with a mid Ford Econoline, there is a group on facefook who share knowledge, I will not be sharing anything about it on here tho.
@maples01 why not on here and blech book to the face well time to make another fake account until they ban that one ... do you have a link to the group?

Yeah, well I'm banned there again, funny how it wasn't a political comment but was a joke, oh so many weak easily offended people there, like in the real world.
I've generally found that with almost ANY Ford, in order to remove the oil pan, you have to remove the motor mount bolt on the driver side, loosen the one on the passenger side and jack the engine up on the driver side. Also not knowing your mileage on the 302, but they're notorious for running low oil pressure when they have high miles and it could be any number of things, such as you've already mentioned, but if you're going through the trouble of removing the pan, cleaning the tube and screen, why not just replace the oil pump while you're there??? Also, could it have been flooded real bad and run for a long period of time with a lot of gas in the oil? These are just some of my thoughts, you know your van better than anyone else would. Good luck. By the way, I love those era vans I had a 68 and a 72 E100's, they make great shagg'in wagons. Had one for partying and one for hauling music equipment, both 3 on the tree and st8 6's, one was totaled and the other stolen....I miss those vans.

oh geeze stolen that sucks was it ever recovered? and yeah im planning on cleaning out the tube and screen and replacing the pump with a high flow one ... its got either 85k or 185k and there was water in the sump when i got it so who knows the pickup tube might be completely rotted away or packed with rust ... ive got 3 of these one had the mexican block in it and got a 20 overbore with some pretty niche hardened con rods the heads were plunge cut for bigger valves everything was polished flat top pistons profiled crank and now puts out about 350hp and 400ftlbs at the crank naturally aspirated on a 4 barrel has 3 on the tree with the heavy duty trans bearings top and bottom then a 4.11 9inch rear all this except the engine tweaking was stock on an e100 former bell labs cargo van still has the bell labs green paint ... the other two are mainly parts vehicles for that one but might turn into one really crazy project. but until that happens having them as regular runers is a good thing.
i am looking for one that has both sides with sliding or barn doors and a good body ... dont care about anything else except the glass. and if its the long wheel base version that is even better ... basically i need a body for a muscle van mid engine funnycar build and the double doors will make working on the engine sooooooo much easier plus it will be better to show it off at shows ... im going to put the body on an e450 frame to keep it from twisting too much and its going to get a roof scoop going to something big probably 1000 crank hp and about 1200 ftlbs ... i dont expect it to break any records but i do expect it to look ridiculous turn heads and burn through duallies like nobodies business.
