I am installing a 4.6 liter Romeo long block in my 1997 f150 4x4. The knock sensor well is different in the valley. Old sensor looks to be 20mm and the new well is 12 mm. Need to order a new knock sensor that will work with this set up but there are so many to choose from I can tell which one I should use. Being it is under the intake manifold I don’t want to get the incorrect sensor and have to pull it later.
Would anyone have a good part number I should use?
Which Romeo engine are you installing? (Need the year) is it a PI-type engine? On the heads, if facing look to the left front head above the first exhaust port and there it should say 1L2E-6090-D24D now on the driver's side head it may say 1L2E-D36D-PI. These are Romeo PI-type heads that came out in 2001 up in Trucks and cars.
What type of engine came out of the truck? (4.6 or 5.4 and year)
The 2001 Romeo engine up on some had two split-type knock sensors and the other earlier engines had the single connector. Now the NPI engines had a different connector where it plugged into the wiring harness. If you still have your old engine take the knock sensor of it and place it on the new engine and it will work fine if placed facing the engine on the left side of the block.
There is no way for me to know what year the block is I am installing, the builder claimed it was a 1997 block but must not be. The block being removed has a place below the intake manifold for the knock sensor. Its threads are 20mm as is my sensor. The new block only has a 12mm thread well so the old sensor wont fit into it. There is only on sensor, hoping to find a part number for a sensor that would work, I am sure I will need to modify the wires so it plugs into me wire harness.
