Trailer TPMS & Camera system

I bought this option with my truck and was looking to install. I noticed the directions say TPMS sensors cannot be used on steel carcass tires.

WTF!! All trailer tires have steel belts. Am I wrong? I have Sailun 637’s on my toy hauler.

can anyone verify if these Ford tpms sensors will work before I pay $100 to get them installed?

thx!

I had the same tires on my old horse trailer and Hercules S901 before that and the TPMS worked fine with both. This was a 40 foot goose neck and the sensor module was almost 20 feet from the tires. I was not impressed with the camera system though. What drove me crazy was backing into a tight spot you have to select the trailer camera then if you pull up the trailer camera stays on when in drive but as soon as you go back to reverse it switches back to the tailgate camera. I have ordered a wireless camera for the new horse trailer, it should be here next week. Not sure what I’m going to do with the TPMS on the new trailer though, I’m not to concerned since it has Continental 265/75R19.5 tires. They are overkill and should last a while.

awesome! Thx for your input.

My trailer already has a cam system & I don’t really use it. I primarily wanted the tpms function. Does it do both temp & pressure?

Only does pressure unless you have a newer truck. My 2020 does not offer temps.
I'm not sure when the Temp display was added to the command screen to temps. probably 2021

I'm running the Goodyear Endurance tires on my horse trailer and the TPMS works just fine
Other than I wasn't paying attention and set a bale of hay on the cable and made a tight turn and pulled all the wires out of the plug. It was real challenge to buy just the truck end of the cable with out buying a whole TPMS kit. My local dealer told me it only comes in the kit, But I finally found an online dealer who ordered just the first segment of the cable. It actually shipped today, So I'm looking forward to see if I really got what I needed or if the online dealer really knew what he was selling.

Typical of all the Ford cameras. It's just so-so. Not really crisp. But I just need something to help me back into the drive when I come home after dark. I've got a couple remote LED flood lights that i turn on with a fob to illuminate the driveway. I would love to add a inside the horse trailer camera to check on the horses. But that will have to be some kind of after market camera

My truck is a 21 f350 platinum. It would be nice if it does show temps too.

Is the TPMS something that you had to add from the factory? I see in the accessory store that you can but the kit for $500. I have been torn on the system since we have had nothing but problems with our 2020 Explorer TPMS and it going off constantly.

The kit they are offering is for Trailer Sensor Kit - TPMS Only, Without Pro Trailer Backup Assist for $500. I did not get the ultimate trailer towing set up so I will have to go aftermarket for TPMS.

You can order the kit with or without the camera. I ordered without because my trailer holds a boat and there's no fixed place for the camera.

The TPMS-only kit comes with the same harness as the TPMS/Camera kit. I cut the camera parts off the harness and installed it on my trailer. Works perfectly.

Not sure if this helps but I have them on my Westlake G-rated tires on my toy hauler and have had no issue with reception.

I think it's an issue. I was thinking of trying the Transeagle's out on the cargo trailer but same issue - steel. I think this is why F-450's don't have TPMS. I didn't order them with my truck because I need to check into it more. My toy hauler is three axle so I don't know if Ford supports that? An aftermarket system coming from the valve stem may be your best bet?

Also, Ford sensors have the small diameter valve (.453) stem where the F450 and most high pressure trailer wheels use the larger diameter valve stem (.625). Nichols (https://nicholsmanufacturingandweldingservices.com) makes a solid brass valve stem that fits this larger hole.
