Zinc amounts?

I am currently using Rotella 15w-40 diesel in my 1978 F-100, 302, for the zinc availability. As colder weather approaches I am considering switching to Rotella 10w-30 diesel.

My question is whether or not the zinc level is the same in this different weight?

Thanks for any information.

According to a quick google search they both say approx 1200ppm. Viscosity should be the only difference.

I run vavoline VR-1 10/30 currently.

I run 15w-40 t4 in my FE. I think about VR-1 sometimes and would have to go 20w-50 but I live in Texas so heat is more my issue.

What ratio are you mixing this all up at and how long have you been using this mix in your truck?

The ratio is right there and I have done this for 30yrs plus in multiple vehicles. The Lucas oil stabilizer prevents wear on cold or sat for a few weeks starts. Zinc keeps the cam happy. Semi synthetic keeps the seals clean. I will never stop using this on an older motor.

Mobil 1 turbo diesel 5w-40 has enough zinc in it fwiw. I run it in my 86, my 79 engine is done and gets the cheapest oil in it.
you don't need to stick with rotella is all I'm pointing out, like the other posters have.

I've been running Delo 400 XLE in my Ford and Dodge for a couple of years now, and Rotella for many years before that. I chose to switch to Delo because their oil is formulated for gas and diesel engines, and has a SN rating. I mix 1 gallon of 10w30 and 1 gallon of 15w40 for the 8 quart Dodge, and 3 quarts of each for the 6 quart Ford.

That gives me a 12.5w-35 mixture. The engines run much smoother and quieter with this blend than ever before.
