95 F150 MLPS Question

1995 F150, 5.0, 4R70W, 2WD 149k

At first I thought the truck was slipping, but not so sure now.

Just picked it up and have not driven a Ford truck of this era before... not sure how it should feel.

For sure it has some late shifting going on at higher RPMs... not so noticeable if I granny drive it.

Thinking maybe the MLPS since that seems to be the culprit in most of my searches...

Looking at mine, it looks to be original and the wires going into the connector look like hell... BUT, I dont know what I dont know....

what do you all think, could this be problematic?

(also, not Trans related codes found... only have 211, 172 and 225, far as I can tell none will affect transmission)

AND... if it is.... anyone know where a new pigtail can be found? Is it possible to take this one apart and clean it up?

That wiring looks a little compromised.
You can test the mlps but will have to google for the specs because I don't know them off top of my head
Many of the MLPS replacements come with a new connector but not new wiring.
Make sure the new MLPS is aligned correctly when installing
I would start with the known issues first and work through them and then tackle anything that still remains.

The connector is either Standard Motor S723 or S798 depending on which trans you have. S798 is a pricey little bugger - $48 at rockauto.

S723

S798

If you got your foot into it to get up to higher RPMs (+3000-3500), your probably noticing the Torque Converter locking up, then shifting.
That can feel like a late sloppy shift if your not used to it.
