Dual Purpose Fuel Reservoir

Hey, I have a 1989 e-150 with dual tanks and the 302. I haven't messed with the dual purpose fuel reservoir since the previous owner had it replaced before I purchased it. There are two things I've been curious about with the reservoir though. Is mine the type that has a fuel filter inside? I've seen someone on here insisting to not open up the reservoir because its really hard to screw the bottom back on with the large o-ring lining up properly. I'm curious if this is true for my reservoir because I would like to change the fuel filter if there is indeed one in there. I replaced the in-line fuel filter a few months ago and the gas coming from the input was pretty brown.

My second question is if anyone has a good fix for the hatchet job the previous owner did to the rear tank supply and return lines to the reservoir. For some reason they cut the lines and then reconnected them with some fuel line and hose clamps. Whats my best course of action here so I'm not relying on hose clamps to keep my fuel from leaking. Thanks!

According to LMC Truck’s catalog, the dual function reservoir filter only applies to 1985-86 model years.

They have preformed fuel lines for F-Series trucks but I don’t know if the vans used the same steel lines or not. Or is the steel line still ok and you only need the hose ends?

Ah thank you, I was wondering the same thing about a potential fuel filter inside the reservoir on my 1987 Ford ranger but sounds like it shouldn't have a filter in the reservoir either based on the years you provided.

You can see in my photo where they added some hose and hose clamps to the lines going to the reservoir. I'm not sure what they did or why. The quick connects are all still there but they added some hose and clamps in the line just after the quick connects. It's really easy to remove those quick connects in my experience without any type of special tools so I don't know what their reasoning was. Also they only cut up the two lines leading to the rear tank. I guess it couldn't hurt to remove the hose and clamps to get a better look, Even if I don't have what I need to fix it properly I can put some fresh hose on there.
