Thanks for the guidance, everyone! I installed a Boss BV765BLC from Crutchfield after I got these old eyes past the wiring harness. Seems to work well. The factory installed lighting on the original just wore out! Crutchfield is an awesome company!
Glad you got this sorted out---looking at Crutchfield's site again just yesterday they're still out of stock on the Sony products I'd buy yet Best Buy and Amazon both have decent selection and seeming items in stock--maybe older products not yet sold?
I'm not really ready for a new stereo but good to know who might have my favorite brand in stock should that urge hit me.

The electronics shortage has made a large impact, too bad they still refuse to start making products here.
You need to take the entire dash off ( I just pulled it out of the way, could not get it past the steering wheel so gave it a bit of a bend to put stuff in, this is a 2014 e series.) make sure to put it in 1st gear to give room to pull it away a bit. It should all just pull away.
You can get wire adaptor harnesses, I swapped from a stock ford to a pioneer and using the following parts. The only thing I had to do was cut little tabs of the Metra double din adaptor. ( if you read the instructions that come with it, it says to remove them for a different model car, but it wont fit on the e series with the new dashboard with out removing them.) the wire harness plugged right in tot he head unit and the car, no splicing of any cables.
The wire harness should be the only pioneer part, so if you get a different brand you need to get the ford - that brand adaptor. the rest work for any head unit. if you are in the southern az area I can give you my stock radio maybe? ( not sure on value)
The metra double din adaptor needs longer then normal screws to fit, it comes with them but they SUCK and seem to be made of tin. I would recommend going stright to a hardware shop and getting new screws. I will post an installed pic shortly.
So here is an installed pic.
I was going to install a usb charger in one of the cig holes that is why it is open ( I have to cut a little anti rotation tab to fit it so didnt get it done that day. )
so i pulled my radio today and discovered it have two harness with grey plugs going into the radio. Im assuming this means it has a factory amp. Its a work van but does have four speakers. 2 fronts 2 rears. Upgraded i guess. The cheap amazon radio doesnt even power up after connecting to the single harness that i made up. I'll assume this has to do with the amp harness. Anyone have this experience. Now thinking about doing the the sony xavax8100
2012 E 250 van. Honestly not sure about trim. its a base model van with what i would call the appearance package. Chrome grille upgraded headlights. the radio has the chrome rings around the volume and menu buttons. van has four speakers.
I went with Amazon as there a Kohl's store here so if I have a return (and I did for the first unit) it was easy. The replacement Pioneer was okay though and installation was so easy.
Is there enough cable to run across the dash, up the pillar and to the camera or whatever device is at the end of the cable that goes straight up? I ran a power cable to a dash cam sitting above the rear view mirror. I tucked the cable in seams. I didn’t remove more than the door frame weatherstrip. I hate breaking plastic tabs.
My rear view camera cable ran between the dash and doghouse like I see in your picture. I rerouted it so it doesn’t snag when fitting the doghouse. I’m the usual mechanic but another driver might need service away from home.
I ran my cables low from between the dash and the doghouse gap. I have a floor mounted center console that hides the wiring so no stress there. As for the rest of the wiring on mine I ran it under the seam in the carpet behind the driver's seat and then under the Port side panels to the back. The USB and AUX were taken care of by a flush mounted dingus I purchased separately and mounted it to the dash.
...but not before I slipped and scarred the panel a little bit. I may address this at a later time.
Mmm. Ordered another radio and a another harness. My existing radio has two plus. One is for the line in and the other I would assume is power and speakers. Using a meter I have battery power and ground but can’t seem to find ignition / accessory in the harness. Is there anyway to tell if it has an amp. I’m throughly confused
