My 4.2 began cutting out on acceleration today, when it reaches speed and levels out its smooth, I put it on my hand held Bosch diagnostic and it gave no codes but of course the engine wasn't running, It began as I was sitting in the automatic car wash so I thought it may have sucked some water in but after 15 miles it still persists, anyone have some advice? should I try Autozones/Oreilys diagnostics??
Codes don't always appear immediately. May take some driving time before they appear. If you don't have a check engine light the codes likely aren't there if the light is working.. Checking at a parts store can't hurt.
Check all the plug wires and make sure they are snugly connected. I had a loose plug wire connection on my coil pack that gave me a similar problem once.
Could be a clogged fuel filter. How long since the last change? Could be dirty fuel injectors.
