rear door gaskets

I bought new gaskets from Steele, they are the only company making them for the rear doors, others are calling to side cargo door a rear door, misleading, they are Not the same either. Replacements don't have the metal tabs in them where you can attach the ends with a screw like the factory either, they wind so tight around the doors it pulls the corners down, causing leaking issues, I have adjusted the doors several times to line them up, still they leak, I am at whits end dealing with this mess, the rear doors didn't come on it, obvious since the keylock is different, it was leaking before I got it, previous owner covered the floor with MDF and carpet, covering the water in the floor that leaked in, I've had to fiberglass several holes, I don't know why he changed the doors.

Haha, didn't think anyone could figure this one out, if your gaskets are bad, good luck, whats available for the 75-91 is not like factory, and getting it to stop leaking will drive you mad, not going to do my front doors now, screw that, will glue the stock ones back on.

Are the original ones all tore up? You can use some RTV and cellophane and a lot of patience to build up the broken parts. And if it is just deflated or flattened from the years there is some stuff you can inject on the inside to make it fill back out , like a soft set rtv. I will have to look around a bit for this, I just remember it as a way people fixed the t top seals on a older car I own.

as far as fitment, you can put something on the stripping that will transfer to the metal when you close the door to see how it is not sealing? For some stuff I do where fitment is a big difference I use a sooty lamp (any wicked liquid gas lamp should work, just raise the wick high till it is smoking), let it soot up one side, and then it will leave some soot on other side of what ever it touches (I have zero idea if this will work on rubber to metal, just something from a different field that may help).

The old was ruined by previous owner attempts to stop the leak, spray foam was slathered on the door and gasket, after replacement, and door adjustments, both doors were way out of adjustment, not lining up with the body, drivers side rear was almost touching the body in the top corner, I can see dads spotlight shining out of the top corner outside, makes sense, the door gasket where it goes around the top corner, it flattens out, wish I could put something inside it to stop it, fluff it back out, so much for new gasket fitment. I can see my 99, the gaskets are not just hollow but open at the end, pull off the van, insert rubber tubing and boom, back to shape, the 89 has large solid ends so shaped to form a shape the other door seal contacts to complete the seal, they had metal made into them that held it in place with a single screw, No replacement is made that way now. I've been considering getting someone to put black caulking between the gasket and door to push it forward to the body, dads getting older, and I can't reach it from my chair, its starting to look like I may want to see if a bodyman could get it right for me. I gotta say, I'd love to be able to pull it all off and put clay around the door to get a real view of contact, I hate the door design, I can now see how much better it is on my 99, the center gap has 2 rows of seals, inner and outer, seals seem much larger too.

I was able to use seals from Metro a year or so ago in my 85, they seemed to work fine. They still list rear door seals, maybe worth a shot? I don't remember if there was metal in the ends where the screws went.

Exactly what I have, they are missing the metal that secures the ends with screws, not sure why mine leaks, I plan to take it to a shop and let them see whats wrong.

Hmm mine might not leak just because where I am. My right rear side window leaks, but only if there is a lot of snow on the roof. It doesn't rain so much here although we had a pretty good monsoon season this year. I used to live on the other side of the mountains from where I think you are, it definitely doesn't rain like that here. Also have original doors.

We've had more than normal rainfall this year, I'm hoping I can get it stopped, but have so much other stuff to fix first.
