Greetings all,
I've recently aquired a either 49'/50' F-1, just need help figuring out which it it. The Serial number on the firewall of the passenger side reads as such, *98RC*432709*SP. I know the 9 means either 49' or a 50', 8R means V8, C is 1/2 ton, and the SP means it was built in the St. Paul plant. My main question is it a 49' or 50'. I'm was told it was a 49' but searching around other threads and forums say that it's more likey to be a 50' because of the higher production numbers. Am I correct in this assumption? Also any tip or tricks that I should know about before I dive in would be greatly appreciated.
Your assumption is correct. Your truck is definitely a 50 model based on the consecutive unit number. To narrow it down further, there should be a series of numbers and letters hand stamped into the firewall, near the cowl seam. Find and post those and we can tell you your color code and assembly date. Welcome to the forum!
