I have a 2004 RV based on an F450 Econoline chassis, and I am setting it up to tow a car. I installed a breakbuddy Stealth on the car, and it seems to work. Last thing is to install the break controller in the F450. Does anybody know where the connector for the tow controller hides in this truck?
I see a few connectors that could be for the tow controller, but they are either already occupied, or they don't have the right color wires going into it. Maybe I am looking in the wrong places?
The RV has both a 7-blade connector and a 4 flat connector and a trailer hitch, so I would think there is a way to connect a break controller.
Agree with above. Your brake controller should have diagrams in the instructions on what the connector looks like - it may also be taped up out of the way, so you might not actually see it.
My apologies. The RV is based on an E450 Econoline, not an F450. I think that makes a difference ...
I did snoop around under the dash, and did find a couple of connectors, as mentioned:
This plug is taped to a major trunk of the wiring harness to the very left under the dash close to the bottom, by the fuses. I think this is where I have found another discussion said the connector would be. However the other discussion showed a connector with red, blue, white and black wires. /This one has totally different wires:
The next one is a bit weird. It seems like it would fit, but again, the cables running into the plug have different colors. This plug is also used, but all but 2 wires are blunt cut at the plug. The two wires run to sort of counter, which I think is a clock that measures how long the engine has been running. That's probably becuase the RV was originally a rental vehicle:
The third one is on the other side of the steering column and is in use with a bunch of odd-colored wires coming out of it:
Any idea if any of these (especially the first one, although the wires are different colors than expected) could be the brake controller connector?
Agree with above. Your brake controller should have diagrams in the instructions on what the connector looks like - it may also be taped up out of the way, so you might not actually see it.
Thanks. I did check the documentation, but they only show the wire colors, and when I asked them directly if they had information where I could find the connector, they said they did not have the info ..
Been a while since I fished around under a dashboard, but your first picture looks like what would normally be the connector for a brake controller. I don't have the wiring schematic but you could untape it, see if one of those wires has 12v, and see if another gets 12v when you press the brake pedal.
