I have an 88 F350 which of coarse is a long bed. After pulling the motor, trans, cab, and bed to have the frame sandblasted my firend said I should turn it into a shortbed. I know how to do it but wanted to get other peoples opinions and see if anyone did it before and how hard it was.
probaly more hassle than it is worth and the ride in many peoples opinion is a bit nicer in a long bed truck, especially if you start lifting it and your springs get stiffer anyway. not that the ride in a truck is anything to brag about as it is most the time, just dont want to rollover eack turn either, the hardest part is lopping off a foot of the box in the front and getting it to look straight, then trying to get the frame back together and not crooked or twisted and diagonally challenged, it takes a lot of measuring then some more measuring then it couldnt hurt to put it on a frame rack either to check for straightness or alignment, and if you r welding anyway might want to box in parts of the frame and install a x member. but for some 4x4, some flex in the frame is wanted, but its a matter of opinion and depends on preference or what u r doing with it
I wouldn't do it. f350's are big heavy duty working trucks. shortboxes are for lighter duty trucks with extended cabs or to shorten the truck for offroad mauverability. Also, chopping the frame down and getting everything aligned, driveshafts, u-joint angles, brakes, fuel lines, new shortbox with paint, and all the welding would be lots of work. My 2 cents worth.
well i'm building the truck for off roading.
i was thinking of 6" of lift with 39" boggers. Prolly drive it on the street alot too and do a little towing. As of right now the frame is being sand blasted and the cab and bed are off. No fuel tank or line or wiring are left on the truck. So i'm basically starting from nothing
