Has anyone else noticed that classic truck prices have really gone up? Or Down? I personally think it’s all a matter of where your looking. I see trucks on the internet for 35k, 45k, 60K, and higher! I went to the last mecum auction and if you had a budget of 25-30K you could have bought something insanely beautiful! There was a time when Mecum and such auctions were for the wealthy, but with more and more internet horror stories of people getting ripped off by dishonest sellers, Mecum and other places have turned into a place to go for smart people..

My thoughts on this. There are a bunch of yahoos here in southern California that heard that classic truck prices are on the rise. Every Joe Blow with a 40-year-old truck thinks it's an eligible receiver and is trying to sell it for $12,000. I saw a beat-up, overworked 79 F100 that needed lots of bodywork, paint, interior, and a drivetrain, as in motor and trans, guy was asking $5000. SMH
And you may think that just because it's for sale at some big name auction, it actually guarantees that it's not a PIG with a LOT of LIPSTICK? Sorry, but I have heard a few stories of guys going down south to Barret Jackson, etc, spending $60K on what they thought was a really nice vehicle......only to find out is was a POS that had been made to LOOK GOOD, but was garbage. One local by went to BJ, bought a '69 Z28, got it home, took it to a local shop, cuzz he wanted to make a few changes.....they put it up on the hoist and started looking closely, and by the time they were done showing the owner all the atrocities they'd found, he was white as a ghost. The bill to "make it right" was as much as he paid for the car......So Smart People, eh?? ok.....................
If I haven't been given an opportunity to look it over thoroughly on a hoist, and have a mechanic friend look it over, I'm not likely to drop big coin on anything. I think a large number of of the cars at these "events" are legit, but many of these deep pocket guys have probably never been under any of the cars they own, let alone one they're bidding on..........

Not only classic trucks. 2-4 year old pickups are listed for what list price was when new. What I've seen with Ford, is it appears they have raised the prices on new trucks to cover the increase in used prices. I know Ford has priced me out of a new truck purchase from them. GM did that years ago. I'm looking at Ram Classic V-6 now as the only truck somewhat within reason. Standard E-Torque on the V-6 on the new style Ram has removed it from the list, and I don't want a Hemi at all.
Classic vehicles from junk on up are way out of line where I live.
I place a premium on original condition. One, more people want original so bigger market. Two, I don't trust customized work by others. So the value to me is $0 but if forced to categorized then a grade 3 truck with demerits all over for not being original Ford to start with.

At places like Barrett Jackson, Mecum, etc, you get to personally inspect the car or truck, with your own eyes, hands and knowledge! If you spend 60k on a car and get taken, it’s your own fault!
