Ford diesel with high idle times and low maintenance article

Yep, I saw that on dude's YouTube. Obviously deferred maintenance. The cheap STP oil filter could also mean they were using cheap oil, possibly not even oil designed for diesel engines. The combination was a recipe for disaster.
I don't recall the YouTube guy saying how many idle hours were on the engine. Would be interesting to know.

Where I used to work, the site manager (data centers) bought a new F550 XL to move a transformer/load bank trailer around for generator testing. The truck only left the site a few times per year to drive 5 miles down the road to the next site. I had a discussion with the site manager about maintenance on the truck and he said he had 'no plans' to ever change the oil. Ever.
Why? Because the capex budget for the site planned for a new truck every 6 years. Period. Regardless of mileage/age/etc. To spend opex money on maintaining the truck would do no good. That $150 oil change could be spent on a gallon of oil for a 1500 ton chiller. That chiller had to last 30 years, so it was money better spent, in his book. To this day this way of thinking blows my mind, but it was the way that place did business...
